My Science of Reading Training

In addition to her years of teaching, Annie is trained in these Science of Reading methods:

Orton-Gillingham

The Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach is a structured, multisensory method designed to teach reading, writing, and spelling to individuals with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. It is an evidence-based approach that is highly individualized and systematic, catering to the specific needs of each learner.

At its core, the Orton-Gillingham model emphasizes the explicit teaching of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills in a sequential manner. Lessons are carefully structured, starting with basic phonological concepts and gradually progressing to more complex language skills.

Fundations

Fundations® employs a structured literacy method firmly rooted in the science of reading, ensuring that learning to read is both enjoyable and sets the foundation for lifelong literacy. With its research-based approach and comprehensive resources, Fundations enables K–3 educators to deliver a meticulously structured curriculum for reading, spelling, and handwriting. Utilizing dynamic, multisensory techniques, the program is designed to align with the science of reading, empowering teachers to implement effective instructional strategies.

LETRS

Decades of research evidence support the idea that explicitly and systematically teaching young children how sounds represent letters is the most effective method for teaching them to read words. This concept forms a fundamental principle of what is now referred to as the "science of reading."

However, LETRS, akin to the science of reading, extends beyond mere word recognition. Its second year focuses on enhancing language comprehension, employing methods that diverge from conventional approaches.
